Recipe: Sauerkraut
The Best Sauerkraut
Ingredients
- 1 lb Sauerkraut, drained but not rinsed (bag or jar, not canned)
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1 red apple cored and sliced thin (skin left on)
- 1 small onion sliced thin
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 1 potato, peeled and grated
- 1 c water or dry white wine
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a large fry pan and cook covered over medium low heat until hot and onion and apple are tender
- Put bratwurst links on top of the sauerkraut as it is cooking. This will steam the brats and the drippings will give the sauerkraut a great flavor.
