Recipe: Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage

Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage


  • 1 head red cabbage sliced about 1/4" thick (1-2 lbs.)
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 2 red apples cored and sliced
  • 1/2 c. dry red wine
  • 1/4 c. vinegar
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper


  • Mix all ingredients in a large sauce pan and cook covered over medium heat until cabbage is wilted and tender, about 45 minutes to an hour
  • As an option, you can fry 3-4 slices of diced thick style bacon and add to the cabbage.
